In the early 1990’s, my family and I had the opportunity to live in Germany. During that time, we enjoyed a world of new sights, sounds and most memorable – foods! We loved to wander the quaint little village were we lived, taking in all of the wonderful smells coming from the shops and bakeries near our home. The local brass band would walk along the sidewalks, playing Christmas songs while everyone waved and cheered them on. A wonderful Christmas punch was sold in the market that literally warmed our hearts!

My son, then 8 years old, became fast friends with the neighborhood baker, even though neither one of them spoke each other’s language. It was a time that we’ll never forget, and during holiday time especially, we miss the lifestyle that only life in a small German village offers.

There are a couple of favorite German Christmas Recipes that I make sure to add to our celebrations every year, and I’ve included variations of them here for you and your family to enjoy this holiday season.

Traditional German Christmas Punch

1 cup water
2/3 cup sugar or Splenda
Couple pinches of ground cloves
1 cinnamon stick
3 cups apple juice
1 lemon, sliced

In a 3 quart saucepan, bring water, sugar, cloves and cinnamon to boil. Stir in juice and heat through. Do not boil. Take spices out and pour over lemon slices in serving bowl. Serve warm. Makes 1-1/2 quarts.

German Christmas Stollen

1-1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar or Splenda
3/4 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
5-2/3 cups flour
1 ounce active dry yeast
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup candied citrus peel
1/2 cup candied cherries

Scald milk. Add sugar, butter, and salt, and cool to lukewarm. Add 2 whole eggs, and 2 yolks. Mix and Add to 3 cups flour and yeast in food processor. Process and let double. Add raisins, citron, and cherries, and rest of flour. Process and put on floured board and knead. Let rise in greased bowl. Once raised, cut into 3-4 pieces. Roll each into an oval, butter, and fold in half lengthwise. Put on greased baking sheet, cover, and double. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes. Cool and frost with white butter frosting and decorate with candied cherry halves and sprinkle with colored sugar.

Women are also warned of the complications and the problems that may occur because of the abortion. They must be aware of what is going to happen with the procedure so that they know what is happening to their body. They should be made aware of everything so that they can make the right decision about their body.

An abortion clinic is hated by some and helpful to others. It is all about their opinion and their beliefs. There is no right and wrong idea to have about an abortion clinic. There is much controversy that will always be around these clinics and what happens in them.

This is a cheesecake that I have been making for over 20 years if you follow the recipe to the tee you won’t have any problem, it is also colorful as well as the most lucious piece of pastry that you ever put in your mouth.

1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs 2 tablespoons sugar 3 tablespoons butter ir margarine melted 2 pounds cream cheese 1 cup sugar 8 ounces sour cream 2 eggs 1 cup flour 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream 2 cup in total, chopped candied cherries, red and green raisins, walnuts, candied pineapple 1/2 cup small chocolate chips

In a 5 quart mixing bowl place 2 pounds of cream cheese and 1 cup granulated sugar and mix on low speed until cream cheese is softened and smooth, place in bowl 8 ounces sour cream and continue mixing until well blended, at this time add 2 eggs, mix for 2 minutes then add 1 cup flour, and 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream, mix on second speed until your cheesecake batter is smooth and creamy.

At this time your cheesecake mixture should be fluffy like ice cream as it comes out of the ice cream machine. Add the candied fruit, raisins, walnuts, pineapple, chocolate chips, fold everything together.

Prepair your 10 inch x 2 inches springform pan, in a large bowl place your graham cracker crumbs and 2 tablespoons sugar, and your melted butter or margarine, then with a wire whisk, whisk them together until well combined, brush onto the sides of your springform pan a little softened butter so the crumbs have something to hold to, place the crumbs on the sides and bottom of the pan. Now you add slowly to the pan your cheesecake mix as not to disturb the crumbs too much, now you should have a full pan.

The total weight of the cheesecake with the crumbs on the sides should be 5 to 5-1/4 pounds if you have some batter leftover just chill it, put some whip cream on it and enjoy.

Preheat your oven to 275 degrees and not more, when your oven is hot place the cheesecake in it and bake for 55 minutes then shut off the oven and let it in there for 3 hours, at the end of this time you should have the most beautiful cheesecake you ever seen, let the cheesecake on the table for 1 1/2 hours then place it in the refrigerator for about 2-3 hours. Now remove it from the pan and enjoy.

Before serving sprinkle some red and green edible glitter that you can purchase at any store that has cake decorating supplies.
